Stable, predictable and adequate funding

From 2009/10 to 2017/18 the student population in Alberta has increased by 19.1%. Also, over that time the costs of inflation have risen by 14.9%. However, over that same time period, funding has barely kept pace. This is a large part of the reason that Alberta school boards have not met class size targets.

Our students and schools require a number of resources to support their learning, including adequate numbers of teachers, educational assistants, paraprofessionals and clerical and maintenance staff. Similarly, schools need adequate and up-to-date technology, reference materials, learning aids and supplies. Teachers also require access to professional development and time to attend to their professional duties.

The Alberta government determines the amount of funding school boards receive to provide resources for schools and students.
How will candidates for election to Alberta’s legislature ensure that our schools are adequately resourced and students are appropriately supported?
